Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- design and evaluate successful social media strategy
- develop social media actions in customer aquisition and to reach sales targets
- monitor and analyze customer engagement
- compare and evaluate different digital marketing platforms and tools

Teaching methods

Digital marketing in social media channels is an important part in company's marketing and sales. In this study unit students will learn how social media is used in company's marketing and sales in a real life. Students will study online IDM social media course and achieve credits by accomplishing IDM Professional Certificate in Social Media (theidm.com). Please note there will be no costs for students.

We will have company partners in this study unit. Students will create a social media marketing plan for one of the partners. At the end of course there will be a Hackathon where students will compete each other and the best pitch of the marketing plans will be awarded.

Please note this course will be an ADVANCED marketing course. We expect you have a solid understanding of social media marketing and maybe have some experience in digital marketing in real life context. This is for those who have accomplished their mandatory marketing courses earlier.

In order to achieve the IDM Professional Certificate in Social Media student needs to study 7-8 hours per week. It is mandatory to follow this learning pace because the social media plan for company is created during the online course.
This course will be in English.

Co-operation with working life and/or RDI

There will be companies as partners and students will create them social media marketing plan for chosen product or season launch in digital channels.

Important dates

The course will start on Monday 4th of October by Opening session at 10-11 o'clock. Make sure you can join this session all important information will be given. If you cannot join please watch the recording.
"The IDM Online course will be open in the beginning of October.

The below marked events are MANDATORY to participate for all. You can ask your questions and get important information in these sessions:
15.10. KICK OFF SESSION online at 9-10 with partner companies who will present their hackathon challenge(s) for the competition. They also provide information about companies, their marketing and their sales targets.

Each team will get a FEEDBACK SESSION from the company. That will be on
1.11. at 14-15 o'clock.

12.11. Each Team presents their FINAL PRESENTATION at Hackathon 9-12 o'clock. This event will be either on campus or online depending on the instructions from Health authorities.

Students workload

Please note this is an intensive course and there are every week several modules to study in the IDM certification material. In this study unit you are asked to apply the theory from online course to the social media marketing plan that you will create for the partner companies. For this reason it is particularly important to follow the given schedule. This ensures that you will accomplish the course and achieve the certificate.

Week 40 Module 1 and 2
Week 41 Module 3 and 4
Company challenges will be given at Kick off 15.10.
Week 42 Module 5 and 6 & Preparation of Company's marketing plan
Week 43 Module 7 and 8 & Preparation of Company's marketing plan
Week 44 Module 9 and 10 & Preparation of Company's marketing plan
Week 45 Finalizing Hackathon presentations & Hackathon event on 12.11.
Week 46 Module 11 and Preparation for the certification test
Week 47 and 48 Take the test.
Please note, you can create small study groups and prepare yourself together for the Certificate test. You will have three tries.

In order to pass this course student need to
1) accomplish the IDM Professional Certificate in Social Media (theidm.com) and
2) participate the hackathon event.

Please not that studying IDM Professional Certificate in Social Media requires approximate 7-8 hours time per week. This time investment is mandatory to follow because the social media plan for company in created during the online course.

The ultimate final date to accomplish the IDM Professional Certificate in Social Media is on15th of December.
