Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- comprehend and describe the operations and protocols in global
IP networks
- calculate IP subnets and supernets
- comprehend and describe security vulnerabilities in IP network
infrastructure
- compare and contrast IPv6 to IPv4
- comprehend and describe the functional concepts and security
risks in wireless networking
- comprehend and describe the functional concepts and security
risks in cloud computing

Teaching methods

The study unit is available on-line. Participation to the on-line lectures, discussions and group work is expected.

Learning materials and recommended literature

The material used will be announced at the beginning of the study unit.

Alternative completion methods of implementation

If the student is familiar with the themes covered in the study unit, it is possible to contact the lecturers before the study unit begins or within the first week after the first meeting to discuss the possibility of recognizing and demonstrating the skills in the HOT-process.

Students workload

The student is expected to be able schedule his/her work according to the the schedule of the study unit implementation. Approving any late work is in the lecturer's discretion.

Content and scheduling

The study unit contents at a glance (details may change before the beginning of the study unit):
- IP networks (subnetting and supernetting. Manual calculation of IP subnets).
- Configuring switches and routers - basics.
- ISO/OSI network protocol model and networks security.
- IP networks security issues.
- IPv6 and IoT security issues.
- Wireless and mobile networking security issues.
- Clouds and content delivery networks and their security.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Grading is based on weighted grades of the assignments during the study unit. The assignment groups and their weights are published in the on-line environment at the beginning of the study unit implementation.

Evaluation criteria, fail (0)

The student has not participated in the work during the study unit implementation or has not been able to finish the assignments on expected level.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student has participated in most of the work during the study unit and has demonstrated adequate level of skills and expertise in the assignments.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

The student has participated actively in most of the work during the study unit and has demonstrated good skills and expertise in the assignments.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

The student has participated actively in the work during the study unit and has demonstrated excellent skills and expertise in the assignments.
