Teaching methods

This is a two-week, intensive sprint with participants mainly from Haaga-Helia, Laurea and Metropolia but also from other universities and from the business life. The participants will be multi-cultural and multi-disciplined. All participants will work in teams of 5-6 people. Themes for summer of 2019 will be Future of Work and Sustainability. There is also a pre-assignment as well as a portfolio assignment.

The sprint will happen during 3-14 June (the whole day each day)

Further information for students

After the program, the student is able to:
- Carry out an innovation project applying the newest existing knowledge and service innovation and design methods.
- Work in multi-sectoral projects.
- Apply creative problem solving and develop working methods.
- Develop practical, creative and innovative solutions, practices and services with multi-disciplinary partners to meet the diverse needs in the Helsinki Metropolitan area.
- The student participates in project or network-based work and applies his or her expertise in regional, national or international development work.
- Use his or her personal skills and abilities to work and collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Create a culture of cooperation and negotiation with the team members and other actors.
- Use his or her skills in problem-solving, collaboration and communication to support the social development and joint decision-making of the team.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The student is required to deliver a pre-assignment by 27th of May and participate actively during the program 3-14 of June (80% attendance is required). The student is also required to carry out a portfolio assignment. Please see Moodle for instructions and more information on grading.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

After the program, the student is able to:
- Carry out an innovation project applying the existing knowlege and service innovation and design methods to limited extent.
- The student uses co-operation and communication skills in cooperative development processes and decision-making and is able to document them.
- The student can develop together with the other actors solutions and mode of operation to meet the multi-faceted need of the residents of the Helsinki metropolitan area.
- The student participates in project or network-based work and applies his or her expertise in regional, national or international development work.
- Use his or her personal skills and abilities in limited extent to work and collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Work as a team member when guided and supported by others in the team.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

After the program, the student is able to:
- Carry out an innovation project applying the newest existing knowledge and service innovation and design methods.
- The student uses the principles of project and network-based work in regional, national or international development oriented work.
- The student uses his or her co-operation and communication skills well in cooperative development processes and decision-making.
- The student helps to set-up a cooperative negotiation culture with other actors in the field. The student uses his/her personal skills and abilities to contribute to the work of a multi-disciplinary team.
- The student develops together with the other actors practical, creative and innovative solutions, modes of operation or services to meet the multi-faceted needs of the residents of the Helsinki Metropolitan area.
- Use his or her personal skills, competences and abilities to work and collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and is able to reflect upon them.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

After the program, the student is able to:
- Carry out an innovation project applying the newest existing knowledge and service innovation and design methods in an excellent way.
- The student's ability to use principles of project and network-based work in regional, national or international development-oriented work is on a high level.
- The student is able to analyse and develop his/her co-operation and communication skills in cooperative development processes and decision-making.
- The student understands cooperative negotiation culture and helps to build it with the other actors is appreciated by the team members.
- The student is able to analyse and develop his/her professional competence and put it in the service of a multi-disciplinary team.
- The student develops together with the other actors practical, creative and innovative solutions, modes of operation or services to meet the multi-faceted needs of the residents of the Helsinki metropolitan area.
