Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- evaluate the impact of the changing environment on business operations
- assess preconditions for internationalisation for a company
- search for information to assess market opportunities
- establish a market entry plan
- act situation-oriented in cross-cultural sales negotiations
Teaching methods
This study unit will be implemented at Otaniemi campus, and it suits particularly well students who are interested in international business. Having completed this course students will be able to evaluate and analyse how a company can achieve global competitiveness through international operations. Consequently, students will be able to pursue a career in international business.
The study unit consists of lectures, company visits, exam and project work.
Location and time
The study units starts in January and ends in April. The lectures will be held at Otaniemi campus. In addition, we will do company visits within Helsinki region.

Hollensen, Svend. Global Marketing, sixth edition. 2014.The following parts:
Part I pages 3-75 (Chapters 1 & 2)
Part II pages 208-268 (Chapters 6 & 7)
Part III pages 326-397 (Chapters 9, 10, 11,12)
In addition to the above mentioned there will be other current material which will be announced later on, and during the sessions.
Co-operation with working life and/or RDI
Project work for a partner company will be implemented in teams, and teams will work - in addition to sessions - independently. Teams (app. 5 / team) can be formed based on students' own wishes with whom they wish to be on a team,or the teacher can do team forming. Through project work students will gain understanding in developing international business for an SME.

Students workload
The total amount ot working hours, app. 270 hrs, consists of the sessions, company visits, project work and team exam.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Project work will account for 70% of the total grade, and will be evaluated according to Laurea's project evaluation criteria. Grading 0-5.
Team exam makes the remaining 30% of the total grade: grading 0-5.
