Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- communicate effectively online and face-to-face for work-related interpersonal and intergroup communications

Students workload

5 credit points equals approx. 135 hours of student's work. This consists on attending the contact lessons, individual studies and group work.Themes of socializing, moving around in nature, telling about your education and work experience. Utilizing different noun types, describing people, basics of object, simple past tense (positive and negative), stating one's opinion.

Further information for students

The prerequisite of this course is A2.1 level in Finnish, i.e. approx 10 cr of previous studies of Finnish. Mandatory attendance on lessons 70%.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Course evaluation is based on designated course assignments, written and oral assessment. 2 opportunities of a retake in case the student fails either one of these.

Evaluation criteria, fail (0)

Student will fail the course in following cases: 1) The student fails to attend the required 70% of the contact lessons. 2) The students fails to return the designated course assignments or fails to complete those. 3) The student gets less than 65% of the points in written assessment or the student's oral performance is on level A1.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can understand most phrases and high frequency vocabulary related to areas of immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment). The student can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements.The student can read short, simple texts. The student can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables and the student can understand short simple personal messages.
The student can communicate to some extent in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. The student can handle very short social exchanges, even though the student can't understand enough to keep the conversation going oneself.The student can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms one's family and other people, living conditions, one's educational background and one's present or most recent job.
The student can write short, very simple notes and messages. The student can write a very simple personal letter, for example thanking someone for something.
